Celebrating Volunteers

Your Library and your community owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to a large and ever-changing group of people. This holiday season take time to thank the people who make Library services possible in Comfort. The Board of Trustees of the Library have reestablished the Friends of the Comfort Public Library as an active group this year. A governing board has been elected and the Friends conducted the annual book sale in November during Christmas In Comfort (the Saturday after Thanksgiving). Please contact the Library for more information about how you can be a member of the friends.

DISCOVER YOUR ROOTS AT THE LIBRARY.

Genealogy is an increasingly popular hobby in Texas. Although the Comfort Public Library does not have an official genealogy section, we do have census data on microfilm, cemetery indexes, local history files and numerous Comfort and family histories. We can also help you gain free access to on-line resources including Heritage Quest and the Family Search Database sponsored by the Mormon Church of Utah. Another wonderful local resource is the Kendall County Genealogy Society.

The February issue of Texas Monthly will include a biographical sketch of Mrs. Rosita Hollar (One of the founders of the Comfort Public Library). Don’t miss this chance to get to know or to remember this incredible women who touched so many lives in Comfort.

Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Comfort, Texas through out 2004.

SOMETHING ELSE TO CELEBRATE!

On November 16, 2003 we gathered at the corner of 7th and High Street to dedicate the Comfort Heritage Foundation Building to the preservation of the history of the community of Comfort. We celebrated the commitment and hard work of the volunteers who had a vision and made things happen! The archives will be open to the public after the first of the year on Saturday mornings.
